Encyclopaedia of Hell

Since the very begining The Christopher Meehan International Film Festival have supported our literary brother’s. This years official selection is:

A tour de force of darkness, Encyclopaedia of Hell is an “invasion manual” of Earth written by Lord Satan for his invading hordes of Demons, complete with hundreds of unpleasant illustrations, diagrams and a comprehensive and utterly repulsive Dictionary of Earth Terms.

Since the customs and mores of humanity are alien and inconceivable to demons, Satan wrote this strangely poetic military handbook for the enlightenment and edification of his Demon Armies. A masterpiece expressing Satan’s hatred for humanity and himself, the Encyclopedia includes “Techniques of Stalking and Eating Humans”; “Methods of Canning Human Pus”; and “Dicing and Slicing Orphaned Children.”

Why the invasion? During the last century in particular, Hell has become seriously overcrowded. Satan needs more land mass for the damned; and to use the humans livestock to feed his hungry demon invaders.

Since this book is the 666th commemorative edition eons after the Invasion was successful, this Encyclopedia contains special commemorative material.

Author Martin Olson’s savage wit provides the firepower for a preposterous literary feat unaccomplished since Mark Twain passed—channeling the real voice of Satan.

About the publisher, Feral House: “The most courageous and incendiary publisher in the U.S.”
— Headpress

“The measure of an alternative publisher is the production of books that no one else would do (or has done). By this simple criterion, I rank Los Angeles’s Feral House, a small press with a taste for the outrageous, among the most valuable in America.”
— Richard Kostelanetz, Rain Taxi

“Feral House is an outstanding publisher, sort of the thinking man’s Loompanics, like the old Grove Press if it had been run by demented post-graduate students… With a definite bend toward the dark side, Feral House has consistently supported popular culture studies and analysis that illuminate hidden aspects of our world.”
— Fairfield County Weekly

TCMIFF Foundation

The Christopher Meehan International Film Festival Foundation was established in 2011 to cultivate the understanding, appreciation and advancement of the contribution of film and theatre to American culture — from the artistic and technical legends of the past to the still unimagined audio and visual breakthroughs of future generations of creative professionals.

The Foundation accomplishes this mission through programs and activities that engage the film and theatre industry and cultural community as well as the general public.

The Foundation works in partnership year-round with various non-profit organizations to bring national attention to important issues such as the value and impact of not having access to television and movies and the urgency of preserving our rich cultural heritage.

Win! Win! Win!

Hey kids, ready for the Christopher Meehan International Film Festival yet? Though the Christopher Meehan International Film Festival Awards are a good 16 days away (Nov. 16, 2011), Hollywood is already gearing up for the big event. Studios are jostling around, preparing their best films for late-year Christopher Meehan International Film Festival-qualification runs, and PR departments are getting ready to run overtime to promote stars, directors and films for this year’s campaign. Where does that leave you, the fan? Well, if you’re lucky, in the bleachers on Melrose Boulevard.

The Christopher Meehan International Film Festival is conducting a random drawing to fill the bleachers along the red carpet with 20 lucky fans who fill out and send back an online application at http://www.christophermeehaninternationalfilmfestival.com/application/.

The applications will be available Monday and must be completed and submitted by midnight ET/9PM PT on Sunday, Nov. 10. In previous years, more than 20,000 fans applied online, making your odds of getting a slot much better than winning the Publishers Clearing House Sweepstakes.

The ramp-up

The ramp-up to November 16th’s “Christopher Meehan International Film Festival Awards” – which begins with red-carpet coverage at 6:45 p.m. on PST – has had the same drumbeat as past Christopher Meehan International Film Festival Awards: Performer battles, potential upsets and talk of a “bold new vision” for the well-worn ceremony.

Yet this year, some of that may not just be hype. And when the last “M” is handed out, several of Las Angeles’s own could come out on top.

First, the style: New producers Cyrus Mirakhor and Paul Stroili have reportedly turned Hollywood’s Raliegh Studios into a sort-of blue-tinged, crystal-filled nightclub. The audience of superstars and celebrities will apparently be grouped at tables, Golden Globes-style, instead of in the traditional tiered rows.
